No-Sew Thanksgiving Placemat and Napkin Ring

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Thanksgiving Placemat and Napkin Ring I’m excited today because it’s time for our no-sew group to share our monthly projects…and this time the theme is Thanksgiving! With my favorite holiday fast approaching, I am working hard on my tablescape but wanted to find a way for the little grands, who will be at a little table near-by, to feel special, too.

KittySince  our scheduled co-host, Miss Kitty, is...uhhmm…hard at work, too, I guess I will be on my own today! Sooo…let me show you how I made them!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Thanksgiving Placemat Supplies Here’s what you will need:
  • Printouts of the templates for the turkey found here and for the hat found here
  • Felt squares in black, white, yellow, brown, orange, red and burgundy
  • A 20” x 14” piece of dropcloth for the placemat itself
  • Mod Podge for fabrics (permanent, non-toxic and hand-washable) or fabric glue
  • Small flat paint brush
  • Four adhesive-backed Velcro closures in black
  • Scissors

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Thanksgiving Placemat Tutorial And here’s what you will do to make the placemat:
  1. Fold the edges of the dropcloth under one-half inch and press. Cut the corners on the diagonal.
  2. Open the fold, apply a coat of Mod Podge for Fabrics or fabric glue and then gently fold it back. Allow to dry overnight.
  3. Use the turkey template to cut the feathers from the felt, arrange in a pattern that pleases you and glue in place.
  4. Glue the body of the turkey over the feathers and then apply the eyes, beak, wattle (in red) and feet. Don’t worry if it looks messy since the glue will dry clear. Let it dry overnight.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT No-Sew Pilgrim Hat Napkin Ring Here’s how to make the napkin ring:
Use the template to cut out the hat and its parts. Hint: To cut out the buckle, start with a square, fold it in half and then cut out the inside. Glue the band and buckle to the hat. Cut a 1 ½ x 8 inch strip of black felt. Attach the adhesive-backed Velcro in the places indicated. Attach the hat to the strip with the Velcro and close the napkin ring around the napkin.
