Metamorphosis and Thrifty Treasures Monday...or...$4.00 Fun!

mon collageWooo hooo! It’s Monday and I have been saving some things to show you! First, I am joining our hostess with the mostest, Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphosis Monday! Be sure to stop by her beautiful blog to see some before and after projects from our friends in blogland! Also, I am also playing along with the undisputed queen of thrifting, Rhoda at Southern Hospitality for Today’s Thrifty Treasures. Be prepared to be amazed at the terrific bargains snagged by our fellow bloggers over the weekend!

IMG_6632 Baby Kitty want to show you this wonderful old flatware I found while Goodwill hunting with my friend Linda at Nina’s Nest! This time, for a change, it was another lady stalking me while I dug it out of the flatware bin instead of the other way around! Victory! lol I couldn’t wait to polish up one of the grapefruit spoons! A lot of Wright's Silver Cream and elbow grease later and…

IMG_6684taaa daaa! Aren’t they gorgeous? The three grapefruit spoons were 55 cents and the three serving pieces were $1.51! Incredible! All of this for just over $2.00!! Does polishing silver count as a metamorphosis? My elbows think so!! lol

IMG_6682 The grapefruit spoons are Community (Oneida) silver plate in the Adam pattern. I found them online for…are you ready?…$10.00 each! And I really did need them, so that made them an even better deal!

IMG_6741 Just look at the detail in the bowl of the spoon! Isn’t it beautiful??

IMG_6686But…the best surprise was this spoon! I bought the other two serving pieces to get it because I knew it was nicer than silver plate. And it was!! It turns out that it is coin silver...just a little less pure than sterling.

IMG_6688 And look at this beautiful monogram! It's a Lownes serving spoon. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I found this one on Replacements for $60. Can you believe the stuff that people give away??

IMG_7045 Here are a few more of my GW deals…this needlepoint/ petit point pillow cover for $1.61! I love it ! It’s in my bedroom now.

IMG_7048 I also found this hand painted French cafĂ© au lait cup. It was 55 cents at half price…soooo27 cents! I don’t know why, but I love things with other people’s names or initials on them. Françoise! I have your cup and I’m not giving it back! lol

IMG_7051 And finally…I found the Pampered Chef bread tube that I have been wanting at our neighborhood garage sale! My sweet neighbor just gave it to me because I always catsit for her, sooofree! Yippeee! I can’t wait to try it out! So that makes a total of just under $4.00 for this week's goodies! Wooo hooo!

And there you have it..my thrifting finds with a little metamorphosis thrown in! Please be sure to visit Susan and Rhoda to continue your tour of great before and after projects and fabulous thrifting finds! Thanks so much for stopping by! I’ll see you next time! A la prochaine!

Monet's Water Lilies...or...Day at the Museum

I am soooo excited because my grandson and I got to take a little trip to Monet's gardens in Giverny, France this week! Well, not really…but as close as I can afford right now! We went to see Monet’s water lilies on exhibit at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia! Here they are...

monet 1

monet 2

monet 3
The painting is called Reflections of Clouds on the Water-Lily Pond and consists of three huge panels forming a giant triptych forty feet long!! Aren’t they beautiful?? You will have to imagine them end to end to get the full effect! And I am extra excited because…

monet w lilies I got to introduce my 8 year old grandson to Monsieur Monet in person…so to speak! He has been a big fan since he was in kindergarten, thanks to a wonderful art teacher. Also, notice that you can see from this photo just how big the panels really are!

IMG_0527 I have promised him a trip to Giverny, France to see Monet’s gardens in person, too. How did he react to the paintings? He just kept saying amazing! over and over. We had to drop back by the water lilies two more times before we left the museum! In the gift shop, he asked for a book about Monet, a journal with water lilies on it so he can take notes and draw his own water lilies (his words), and a magnet of the painting for his fridge! Amazing!

A Tea and Tablescape...or...A Blue Moon Tea Party

It’s time for Tablescape Thursday with our hostess with the mostest, Susan at Between Naps on the Porch! Please be sure to stop by her beautiful blog to see one of her amazing tablescapes and to find out who else will be participating this week!

And like the proverbial white rabbit, I’m late, I’m late for my dear friend Barb’s Tea Time Tuesday at Grits and Glamour! Be sure to stop by her blog for some yummy looking tea time goodies and to see who else came to the tea party!

I was Goodwill hunting with my friend Linda at Nina’s Nest when I came across this little cutie for a steal! Well…my heart just melted and I had to have it because, as you can see, it’s a Hey Diddle Diddle tea set! That is my all time favorite nursery rhyme!! Are you surprised? Maybe it’s the cat with a fiddle!

Baby Kitty got all excited when he saw me pulling out my camera and playing with my dishes because that means he gets to play co-host! Being the clever star that he is, he never misses a photo op!

Just look at this little tea pot! Isn’t it darling? I actually saw the set online for $45!! I paid $4.54 for mine!

I love the little cow handle!

The crazy moon looks a little leery of the cow’s ability to jump over him...

...and the cat looks downright mad! Maybe it’s because they put a hole in his hat for the spout!! lol

Aren’t the little cups precious? I love the star handles! It also helps that the tea set is blue and yellow…my favorite colors!

It even came with its own Blue Moon tea! Will I drink it?? Uhhhh…probably not! But the box sure is cute!!

Hmmm…something is missing! Well…of course, it’s the little laughing dog and the runaway dish and spoon! Oh, well…they seem to be minor characters in this tea set! But we surely could use…

…a sugar and creamer! Baby Kitty want to show you this milk glass pair that I also found at GW! I love the fruit design!

But Baby Kitty is anxious for you to see what a bargain they were…88 cents each! I found them online for $15 for the pair! Wooo hooo! I think they might be Westmoreland milk glass, too!

There you have my Blue Moon tea party! Baby Kitty and I are so glad you dropped by! Please be sure to head on over to Susan’s and to Barb’s to continue your tour de tea and tablescapes! See you next time! A la prochaine!

Mosaic Monday...or...A Mas in Provence

I don't know about you, but I need a little virtual vacation! Sooo...today I am taking you to Provence...to be more exact, to the Lubéron...Peter Mayle country! I am revisiting the mas or farmhouse in Provence where I spent a week during my retirement trip to France. And since it's Monday, I'm doing it in the form of two mosaics and joining the crowd at Mary's Little Red House! Could it be any more perfect? I love the faded blue shutters, the oh so frenchy fountain in the courtyard, and the winding stairs by the twisted old fig tree! Now, all I need is...

...cats! lol Ahhhh! One of these days I'm going back...not soon enough! Sigh!!
I hope you enjoyed my little mini vacation. Please be sure to visit Mary's beautiful blog to see some more wonderful examples of mosaics. Thanks so much for coming to Provence with me! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm just going to sit here in the courtyard with my glass of wine... Would you like to join me?

It's a Double Post...or...In Search of the Perfect Cloche

I am so excited to join my dear friend and our gracious hostess, Marty at A Stroll thru Life, for her Cloche Party! Please be sure to head on over to her blog to see who else is participating and to take a tour of some beautiful cloches around Blogland! Only one problem...I don't have a cloche!

And since I can't shop without lots of ...er... nourishment, I am also joining our dear Gollum, Michael Lee at Designs by Gollum , for Foodie Friday! Be certain to visit her beautiful blog to see who else is playing along today! Wooo hooo! Eating and shopping...my two favorite things!!

Want to come along? First I have to start out with a nice, healthy breakfast, so I am having some shredded wheat with fruit. Want some? Yes, yes...I know...

...it's hard to see the shredded wheat, but it's there! See it? lol Shredded wheat needs lots of help! And I need lots of energy because I am going to one of my favorite places... the Queen of Hearts antique and flea market in Alpharetta, Georgia! I'm gonna shop 'til I drop! Let's head out!

Ohhhh...here's a pretty cloche practically greeting us at the door! It's on a little pink glass cake stand and has a little bunny in a basket inside! Isn't it cute? Remember...you can click on any picture to enlarge!

Look at this one! Oh...I think this is actually a jar with a pretty lid sitting on another cake stand. I like it, though. It has potpourri inside! What do you think? Shall we keep looking?

Here's another one...with silk hyacinths inside. This one seems to come with its own stand...gorgeous!

Flowers are a popular element inside these cloches, aren't they? This one also has its own wooden stand. How do you like this one?

Ohhhh...now here's the one I brought you here to see...my favorite! I stop and stare at it every time I come here with my friend Linda at Nina's Nest! It's a nice large, heavy one on a rusted iron stand. Do you see what's inside?...a collection of old salt shakers! I LOVE this one! Unfortunately, it's also the most expensive one! The cloche alone is $48 ...hmmm... maybe one day!!

These aren't cloches, but I think they are soooo pretty! These are terrariums...aren't they just lovely??

And here's another glass container that I really like! Can you see that it is etched and has little handles? Another reason that I think I like it is what's inside...

...corks from wine bottles! I love this idea! You can buy just the corks...for $16! I guess that's a lot cheaper than that many bottles of wine! Hmmmm...too bad I don't have a friend in the restaurant business!! lol Speaking of restaurants...all this shopping is making me hungry! How about you?

Let's go next door to My Friend's Place! Everything here is homemade and delicious! This is Cameron who has been the manager here for eleven years! The owner, Grant, is busy in the kitchen. Just look at all of those yummy desserts! Linda and I always stop here for lunch when we are Goodwill hunting! I'm getting mine to go...I've got to hurry home for Judge Judy!

And here's what I got...a chicken salad club sandwich! I...er...ate the other half on the way home!

Doesn't it look yummy? It's a sort of BLT with cheese and chicken salad. They are known for their homemade chicken salad...lots of apples and pecans! It's delicious! And...after all...I used up a bunch of calories shopping!! lol Now you are wondering what else I brought home...

...and here it is! No, it's not a cloche at all! It's a little bird nest box! Don't you love it? I had something special in mind when I went shopping. I needed a place to keep...

...these! They are real bluebird eggs from an abandoned nest in my garden. You see, my bluebird has a trophy wife who can never make up her mind about where she wants to live. They left these pretty little babies and moved to a more upscale neighborhood on the other side of my yard! I just couldn't throw these little eggs away, so now I have a safe place to keep them! I hope you don't mind that I didn't buy a cloche, but I did show you some pretty ones, didn't I? Which did you like best?
Thanks so much for dropping by! Be sure to visit Marty to see some more beautiful cloches and Gollum to continue your gastronomic tour of Blogland! I'll see you next time! A la prochaine!
